I read a book during ‘Accelerated Reader’ in class, and I learned a message from it. Let me share that.

‘Cocky Colin’ written by Richard Tulloch was about a cockroach who has a bad family. He tried to go out to the real world, but kept on having hiding from the human beings. He didn’t want to let those humans take him down, so he went and ate their food thinking that they would stop giving him the hiding. The humans continued to do bad stuff to him, so he gave up.

I really liked the character of the cockroach in the story. He  lived in a action world. One day his sisters, brothers, and cousins didn’t  leave him some food. So he said, “I will go out there to the real world and look for some fresh food.” His mum and dad told him it would be  very dangerous out there, but he didn’t stop. He wanted to continue.

He went out to the real world about five times then he came back to the black hole where his parents and family lived. That’s when he began to get hiding from human beings every time to got out to the real world. But did he stop? No, he continued. He usually danced and sang when he got out to the real world.

One time while singing and dancing, he fell into the drain. He  got wiped away into a big bond of water, but lucky he found a straw and a lolly wrapper, He used the lolly wrapper to to flow himself through the water and the straw to paddle. He saw a light shining from a big hole, so he headed toward that. When he was catching some breath,  he saw people cheering. He thought that there would be food there, so he went there.

When he reached there, he saw people cheering for a sumo game. He danced around as he thought they were cheering for him. But accidently, one sume player sat on him. He did not die, but felt very  very weak. He lay there for a while, and a cleaner came and swept him into the rubbish bin. He got carried from there and got dumped at the dumping area. That was where the little cockroach found a new family.

I learned an important message from the little cockroach. It is about facing all fears and continue to win what one sets his or her mind to achieve. Like the little cockroach, he had fears of going out into the real world and the human beings giving him hidings. But he took  actions and never gave up. No matter how many times he got bitten by human beings, he still stood up to them. If a cockroach can do it, we can!
